School Description
Provided by Emerson College-Boston
Emerson College is the only comprehensive college or university in America dedicated exclusively to communication and the arts in a liberal arts context. It is located in downtown Boston, at the gateway to the Theatre District and in close proximity to major media outlets. It also has facilities in Los Angeles and the Netherlands.
The College was founded in 1880 as a small school of oratory. Over the years, it has evolved into a multi-faceted college that is internationally recognized for excellence in its fields of specialization, which are communication, marketing, communication sciences and disorders, journalism, the performing arts, the visual and media arts, and writing literature and publishing.
Our mission is to inspire students to create and communicate with depth, honesty, courage, and passion, both as professionals in their fields and as informed and articulate participants in society.
Two of our graduate departments (writing, literature and publishing and communication sciences and disorders) are consistently rated among the best in the country by U.S. News and other organizations.
The Emerson College campus in Boston is comprised of a cluster of buildings near the intersection of Boylston and Tremont Streets — adjacent to historic Boston Common and at the gateway to a bustling Theatre District.
Focal points of the campus are the recently completed Piano Row Residence Hall and Max Mutchnick Campus Center at 150 Boylston Street, the beautifully restored Cutler Majestic Theatre (219 Tremont Street); the new Tufte Performance and Production Center (10 Boylston Place); the 14-story Ansin Building, where WERS-FM is located (180 Tremont Street); and the distinctive Little Building residence hall (80 Boylston Street).
Students use the facilities in the nearby Boston Common for relaxation and recreational activities such as tennis, softball, running and ice skating. Rotch Field, located about a mile from campus, serves as a practice and playing field for men's and women's soccer and lacrosse teams and the women's softball team.
