Florida State University is an internationally recognized teaching and research institution committed to preparing our graduates for the ever-expanding opportunities of a global society. Our new medical school, which graduated its first class in 2005, focuses on educating outstanding physicians for practice in community settings. Our law school is one of the fastest-rising in national rankings.

Our students work alongside Nobel laureates, members of the National Academy of Sciences and American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Guggenheim Fellows, Pulitzer Prize recipients, and other globally recognized teachers and researchers.

Our students are diverse. They come from every county in Florida, all 50 states, and over 128 countries. Nearly 30% are minority, and 57% are women.

The middle 50% of the Fall 2008 accepted freshman class is: 3.7-4.2 GPA; 1190-1330 SAT (Critical Reading plus Math); 26-29 ACT.

The top quartile of our Fall 2008 accepted freshman class rivals any selective school in the nation with an average GPA of 4.43, and average SAT of 1398 (Critical Reading plus Math), and an average ACT composite of 31.

Our top five colleges by enrollment are: Arts and Sciences, Business, Social Sciences, Human Sciences and Education.

The top five majors are: Finance, Political Science/Pre-Law, Psychology, Biological Science/Pre-Med and International Affairs.

Florida State University is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research Extensive institution awarding over 2,000 graduate and professional degrees each year.

Florida State University is a national leader in the number of doctorates awarded to African-American students and in the graduation rate of African-American undergraduates.

2007-2008 was a very good year for national fellowships as FSU students won Truman, Rhodes and Fulbright awards.

Epitomized by recently named Rhodes Scholars Garrett Johnson, an elite athlete and scholar committed to public service, and Joseph O'Shea, a campus and community leader as well as a top scholar, FSU students are dedicated to academic excellence and to providing leadership in a complex world.
