School Description
Provided by Kansas Wesleyan University
The mission of Kansas Wesleyan University is to promote and integrate academic excellence, spiritual development, personal well-being, and social responsibility.
Kansas Wesleyan University is a liberal arts institution located in Salina, Kansas. Founded in 1886, it maintains a covenant relationship with the United Methodist Church and is supported by the Kansas West Conference. The school's accreditation was reaffirmed in 1997 by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
The University is divided academically into six divisions and eighteen departments. Courses are offered for twenty-five undergraduate majors and one graduate program, the MBA.
Our School currently enrolls 897 students, the majority from Kansas and surrounding states.
Building your major on a liberal arts foundation has two distinct advantages. First, it sharpens communication, decision-making and reasoning skills. Second, if you are undecided about a major, it provides the opportunity and the encouragement to explore your interests, and the related possibilities, to find that "just right" career path. All programs of study at KWU revolve around a classic, life-enriching liberal arts core, giving you the scope of knowledge to be flexible, adaptable and successful in an ever-changing world.
ACTIVITIES: Student government, clubs, publications and drama groups. Twelve varsity teams with competition through NAIA, Division II; men and women: basketball, track and field, cross-country, golf, soccer, tennis, cheer; men only: football, baseball; women only: volleyball, softball, dance. Plus intramural sports.
Salina is centrally located in the United States, the same distance from Los Angeles (1,490 miles) as from New York City (1,490). Nearly 50,000 people live in Salina. The city stretches over 13,468 acres and is served by 242 miles of streets and major highways, including Interstates 70, 135 and US 81. Salina has more than 23 hotels/motels and 83 restaurants.
The climate in Salina is typical of the Midwest. The average winter temperature is 33 degrees and the average summer temperatures is 79 degrees. The average humidity is 62 percent to 67 percent and the winds usually blow from the South.
