School Description

Provided by Champlain College
An educational pioneer since 1878, Champlain is a college where students and faculty don’t just respond to opportunities-they create them. It has introduced new fields of study, like Game Design and Computer & Digital Forensics, and offer majors with a specific focus, like e-Business Management, Digital Filmmaking and Public Relations. Champlain’s three-dimensional education-another pioneering concept-integrates relevant, professionally focused studies with a rigorous Core curriculum and practical Life Skills program.

The primary mission of Champlain College is to prepare students for lifelong success by creating a physical and intellectual environment which encourages their freedom to grow and inspires the cultivation of their full potential. While special emphasis is placed on the development of professional competence, the following are also seen as essential components of the College's responsibility to its students: to inform and stimulate the mind; to enrich character, personality and ethical conduct; and to provide creative outlets through supervised extracurricular activities.

Champlain College is a coeducational, private, nonprofit college founded in 1878. Its 19-acre campus, home to 1,400 students, is nestled among the stately maple trees of Burlington's historic Hill Section. Many of the College's 33 buildings, including most of the residence halls, are restored Victorian-era mansions, which give students a unique atmosphere in which to learn and live.

The two-year and four-year educational programs are designed to provide sound professional training for careers in today's complex world, as well as broadening and enriching experiences in the humanities and liberal arts. Champlain College is recognized as one of the leading career-building colleges in New England, and it has earned the respect of the business, technical, health, and human services professions for its outstanding educational programs. Champlain College is accredited by the New England Board of Schools and Colleges.

Champlain offers 25 majors in 4 academic divisions which include Business Administration, Accounting and Computer Systems, Community Services, and Arts and Sciences. The College offers both the Associate of Science degree and the Bachelor of Science degree in a unique 2+2 format. This structure offers students the opportunity to complete a two-year associate degree on their way to the four-year bachelor degree.

Champlain College goes well beyond the beauty of the campus. Clubs, activities, and leadership opportunities offer endless ways to get involved. Many activities such as student dinners, trips to Montreal, Canada, guest speakers, and movie nights begin in the residence halls. Other activities are organized by campus wide groups such as the Student Government Association, or the popular Outing Club. Champlain also employs a Weekend Activities Coordinator who arranges ski trips, campus tournaments, dances, contests, and more.

With four other colleges in town, Burlington has a student population of more than 15,000 students! This means that there is always something going on either on campus or nearby. If hanging-out is more your style, there is also a recreation center on campus with pool tables, foosball, and a large screen TV.
